Eligibility & Course Requirements for Pharmacy in India:
Pharmacy Education in India has a very long and Complex Career. Total there are 5 Courses of Pharmacy in India. One is the Diploma Course, One is an Undergraduate Course, One is Post Baccalaureate course and Two are Post Graduate Courses. So, we will discuss these 5 Courses in detail.
DIPLOMA in Pharmacy- Minimum Requirement to take admission in this Course is 10+2 Science. This is a 2 Year Full-time Course + 500 hrs of Training.
BACHELOR of Pharmacy- Minimum Requirement to take admission in this Undergraduate Course is 10+2 Science (PCB/PCM/PCMB). This is a 4 Year Full-Time Course.
DOCTOR of Pharmacy- Minimum requirement to take admission in this Post Baccalaureate course is +2 Science with PCB/PCM/PCBM or D.Pharm. After this 6 Year Course, Students can use Dr. as Prefix in their Name. This is a 6 Year Full-Time Course, Including 1 Year Hospital Internship.
MASTER of Pharmacy- Minimum Requirement to take admission in this Postgraduate Course is B.Pharm on Merit/GPAT Exam. This is a 2 Year Full-Time Course which includes 1 Year of Research Work.
PhD in Pharmacy- Minimum Requirement to take admission in this Postgraduate Course is M.Pharm. This is a Full-Time as well as Part-Time Programme which is a minimum of 3 Years.
Now how these Courses are Inter-linked with Each other?
If you will do a Diploma (2 Years) then you can enter Directly in 2nd Year of Bachelor of Pharmacy. You will get Lateral Entry direct to 2nd Year B.Pharm on Merit.
Then, If you will do a Bachelor of Pharmacy(4 Year) then you can enter directly in 4th Year of Doctor of Pharmacy (6 Year with/without Diploma). You will get Lateral Entry Direct to 4th Year Pharm.D on Merit. Now Pharm.D will be of 3 Year. 2 Years of Course and 1 Year there will be Internship.
But if you do a Master's Degree not a Doctor's Degree (Pharm.D) in Pharmacy then you can go for PhD in Pharmacy (Minimum 3 Year).
